Katin, Peter (Roy)

Katin, Peter (Roy), English-born Canadian pianist and teacher; b. London, Nov. 14, 1930. He studied with Harold Craxton at the Royal Academy of Music in London (1943–48), making his debut at London’s Wig-more Hall in 1948. In subsequent years, he toured globally. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music (1956-69) and at the Univ. of Western Ontario in Canada (1978–84); became a naturalized Canadian citizen. He is best known for his performances of works from the Romantic and Impressionist periods, most especially of Chopin.
