Jelich (Jeličič), Vincenz

Jelich (Jeličič), Vincenz, Croatian composer; b. Fiume, 1596; d. Zabern, Alsace, c. 1636. He was a choirboy in Graz (1606–09), where he studied music with Matthia Ferrabosco, then was at the Jesuit Univ. (1610–15). In 1618 he went to Zabern, where he took holy orders. He then was active as vicar and then canon at Ste. Marie, as well as serving as a court musician. He publ. Parnassia militia concertuum for 1 to 4 Voices and Basso Continuo (organ) (Strasbourg, 1622), Arion primus, sacrorum concertum for 1, 2, and 4 Voices and Basso Continuo (organ) (Strasbourg, 1628), and Arion secundus, psalmorum vespertinorum for 4 Voices (Strasbourg, 1628), as well as a number of motets.
