Horvath, Josef Maria

Horvath, Josef Maria, Austrian composer of Hungarian descent; b. Pecs, Dec. 20, 1931. He studied piano and composition at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. In 1956 he went to Salzburg, where he studied composition and took instruction in electronic music. Subsequently he became a composition teacher at the Salzburg Mozarteum. Among his compositions were Entropia, sym. (1961), Trio for Violin, Horn, and Piano (1963), a group of works under the generic title Redundance for Wind Octet and/or String Quartet (1970), and Origines for Chamber Group (1975).
