Gulli, Franco

Gulli, Franco, distinguished Italian violinist; b. Trieste, Sept. 1, 1926. He studied violin with his father, making his debut in 1933, then went to the Trieste Cons. He also studied in Siena and Paris, his teachers including Arrigo Serato and Joseph Szigeti. He married the pianist Enrica Cavallo. In 1947 they formed the noted Gulli-Cavallo Duo, which made several successful tours. In 1968 he was soloist with the Dallas Sym. Orch.; subsequently played with several American orchs. In 1972 he was appointed prof, at the Ind. Univ. School of Music in Bloomington. An artist of integrity, Gulli secures fine performances of Classical and modern music faithful to the style of the period.
