Griepenkerl, Friedrich (Conrad)
Griepenkerl, Friedrich (Conrad), German pedagogue and writer on music; b. Peine, Dec. 10, 1782; d. Braunschweig, April 6, 1849. He was trained in philosophy in Göttingen, and also received lessons in piano, organ, and theory from Forkel. After teaching at the Fellenberg Inst. in Hofwyl (1808-16), he settled in Braunschweig and taught at the Catherine Academy (from 1816), the Carolinum (from 1821), and the Gymnasium (from 1828). He championed the cause of J. S. Bach.
