Glaz, Herta
Glaz, Herta, Austrian-American contralto; b. Vienna, Sept. 16, 1908. She was trained in Vienna and made her operatic debut at the Breslau Opera in 1931, presaging a successful career, but in 1933 was forced to leave Germany. She toured Austria and Scandinavia as a concert singer; sang at the German Theater in Prague in 1935-36. In 1936 she took part in the American tour of the Salzburg Opera Guild, and subsequently sang at the Chicago Opera (194CM2). On Dec. 25, 1942, she made her debut with the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y. as Amneris, remaining on its roster until 1956. She then taught voice at the Manhattan School of Music, retiring in 1977. Her husband was Joseph Rosenstock
