Giebel, Agnes
Giebel, Agnes, Dutch soprano of German descent;b. Heerlen, Aug. 10, 1921. She studied with Hilde Weselmann at the Folkwangschule in Essen. She began a career as a concert singer in 1947. She gained wide recognition for her radio broadcasts of the Bach cantatas over the RIAS in Berlin in 1950. At a later period, she promoted modern music; her performances of works by Schoenberg, Berg, Hindemith, and Henze were praised. She made several tours as a concert artist in the U.S.
