Ferrara, Franco, Italian conductor and pedagogue;b. Palermo, July 4, 1911; d. Florence, Sept. 6, 1985. He studied piano, violin, organ, and composition at the conservatories of Palermo and Bologna. He made his debut as a conductor in Florence in 1938. From 1958 poor health prompted him to devote himself to teaching.
