Emery, Walter (Henry James), English organist and writer; b. Tilshead, Wiltshire, June 14, 1909; d. Salisbury, June 24, 1974. He studied organ at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and then was engaged as a church organist. From 1937 to 1969 he was an associate at Novello & Co. in the editorial dept. He publ. The St. Matthew Passion: Its Preparation and Performance (with Sir Adrian Boult; London, 1949); Bach’s Ornaments (London, 1953); Editing Early Music: Notes on the Preparation of Printer’s Copy (with T. Dart and C. Morris; London, 1963); commentaries on Bach’s organ works; etc.
