De Angelis, Nazzareno
De Angelis, Nazzareno , noted Italian bass; b. Aquila, Nov. 17,1881; d. Rome, Dec. 14,1962. As a boy, he sang in the Sistine and Justine chapel choirs in Rome. He made his opératic debut in Aquila in 1903; then appeared with major Italian opéra houses. In 1909–10 he was on the roster of the Manhattan opéra House in N.Y.; then of the Chicago opéra (1910–11; 1915–20); later made appearances with the Rome opéra (until 1938); also gave song recitals. He was regarded as one of the most cultured bass singers of the Italian school of opéra, and he was equally appreciated in Wagnerian roles.
