De Amicis, Anna Lucia

De Amicis, Anna Lucia , outstanding Italian soprano; b. Naples, c. 1733; d. there, 1816. She began her career singing with her family in comic opéras in Italy, Paris, and Brussels. In 1762 she made her London debut at the King’s Theatre. In 1763 she appeared in J.C. Bach’s Orione in London, and then devoted herself to serious opéras. She sang in Venice (1764; 1768–69; 1770–71), Milan (1764–65; 1772), Innsbruck (1765), Naples (1766; 1769–70; 1771–72), Turin (1776–79), and Bologna (1778). After appearing in private opéra performances in Naples from about 1778 to 1788, she retired. De Amicis won great praise for her remarkable vocal and acting gifts. Mozart was much taken by her extraordinary talents.
