Dancla, (Jean Pierre) Léopold
Dancla, (Jean Pierre) Léopold , French violinist and composer, brother of Arnaud Phillipe Dancla and (Jean Baptiste) Charles Dancla; b. Bagnères-deBigorre, June 1, 1822; d. Paris, April 29, 1895. He studied violin with Dussert in Bagnères-de- Bigorre, then entered the Paris Cons., where he studied cornet with Meifred (premier prix, 1838) and violin with Baillot (premier prix, 1842). He became a violinist in the orch. of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire (1846), and also joined the orchs. of the Paris Opéra (1853) and the Théâtre-Italien (1858). He wrote much chamber music, works for violin, and vocal pieces.
