Cunitz, Maud (b London, 1911; d Baldham, nr. Munich, 1987). Ger. soprano. Début Gotha, 1934, thereafter singing in Coburg, Lübeck, and Stuttgart. Salzburg Fest. début 1943 (First Lady in Die Zauberflöte and Zdenka in Arabella). Created role of Semele in Die Liebe der Danae (Salzburg dress rehearsal 1944). Joined Bavarian State Opera, Munich, 1946, with whom she made her CG début 1953 as the Countess in Capriccio, its first London perf.
