Cruz-Romo, Gilda , Mexican soprano; b. Guadalajara, Feb. 12, 1940. She studied at the Cons, of Mexico, making her debut there in 1962. On May 8, 1970, she appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y. as Maddalena in Andrea Chenier; continued to sing there in subsequent seasons; also sang in Chicago, Houston, and Dallas. In Europe, she appeared in London, Milan, Moscow, Paris, and Vienna. Her large repertory included both Verdi Leonoras, Violetta, Amelia, Aida, Elisabeth de Valois, Cherubim’s Medea, Donna Anna, Cio-Cio-San, Manon, Suor Angelica, and Tosca.
