Bréval, Jean-Baptiste Sébastien (b Paris, 1753; d Colligis, 1823). Fr. composer and cellist. Played own sonata at Concert Spirituel, Paris, 1778; became member of Concert Spirituel orch. 1781–91, orch. of Th. Feydeau 1791–1800, and Paris Opéra orch. 1801–14. Comp. 7 vc. concs. (1784–94), 8 syms., concertantes for various instr., much chamber mus., and one opéra comique (1788). Wrote important Traité du violoncelle (1804).
