Bovicelli, Giovanni Battista , Italian singer, music theorist, and composer who flourished in the late 16th century. He wrote the important treatise Regole, passaggi di musica, madrigali et motetti passeggiati (Venice, 1594; ed. by N. Bridgman, Kassel, 1957), notable for its treatment of singing and improvised vocal ornamentation.
