Banister, John Jr.

Banister, John Jr., English violinist and composer, son of John Banister; b. London, c. 1663; d. there, c. 1725. He studied violin with his father. He served as concertmaster at the Italian Opera in London. He composed mostly for the theater, and contributed to Play-ford’s Division Violin (1685), the first violin manual publ. in England.
