Auer, Max, Austrian writer on music; b. Vöckla-bruck, May 6, 1880; d. Vienna, Sept. 24, 1962. He studied in Vienna, and later taught in provincial public schools in Austria. He was one of the foremost authorities on Bruckner. He publ. Anton Bruckner: Sein Leben und Werk (Vienna, 1923) and Anton Bruckner als Kirchenmusiker (Regensburg, 1927). He also completed vols. 2-4 (1928, 1932, 1937) of Göllerich’s monumental biography, Anton Bruckner: Ein Lebens- und Schaffensbild.
