Attenhofer, Karl
Attenhofer, Karl, Swiss conductor and composer; b. Wettingen, May 5, 1837; d. Zurich, May 22, 1914. He studied with Elster, and then at the Leipzig Cons. (1857–58) with Richter and Dreyschock. After serving as director of music in Rapperswil (1863–66), he settled in Zurich and became director of music at the Univ. in 1870 and was named to the position of 2nd director of the Cons, in 1896. Although he composed church and chamber music, he became best known for his choral works and pieces for men’s voices.
