Astrua, Giovanna

Astrua, Giovanna, Italian soprano; b. Graglia, near Vercelli, c. 1720; d. Turin, Oct. 28, 1757. She was a pupil of Bravio in Milan. In 1739 she made her operatic debut in Leo’s II Ciro riconosciuto at the Teatro Regio in Turin, and then was a member of the Teatro S. Samuele in Venice. In 1745-46 she sang at the Teatro S. Carlo in Naples. From 1746 until she lost her voice in 1756, she was a member of the Berlin Court Opera, where she appeared in operas by Graun and Benda.
