Andersen, (Carl) Joachim
Andersen, (Carl) Joachim, Danish flutist, conductor, and composer; b. Copenhagen, April 29, 1847; d. there, May 7, 1909. He studied with his father, the flutist Christian Joachim Andersen. From 1869 to 1877 he played in the Royal Orch. in Copenhagen. In 1882 he became 1st flutist in the Berlin Phil., and also served as an asst. conductor with it. From 1893 he was conductor of the Palace Orch. in Copenhagen. He wrote various works for flute, some with orch. His brother, Vigo Andersen (b. Copenhagen, April 21, 1852; d. [suicide] Chicago, Jan. 28, 1895), was a flutist. He served as 1st flutist in the Theodore Thomas Orch. in Chicago.
