In the post-World War II era, Astrid Andersen emerged as a prolific, acclaimed poet. A Norwegian author of verse and short prose, as well as translations from English and German, she penned 14 collections of poetry in a career that spanned more than 40 years. From her first book (De ville traner, 1945) to her last (Samlede dikt, 1985), she used her interest in the visual arts to create an imagery in words that was called her strongest poetic gift. Andersen, who traveled extensively in the United States, died four months shy of her 70th birthday.
