Andersen, Karsten
Andersen, Karsten, Norwegian conductor; b. Christiana, Feb. 16, 1920; d. there (Oslo), Dec. 15, 1997. He received his training in Norway and Italy. In 1945 he became music director of the Stavanger Sym. Orch., a position he held concurrently with the Stavanger Radio Ensemble. From 1965 to 1985 he was music director of the Bergen Sym. Orch. He also was chief conductor of the Iceland Sym. Orch. in Reykjavík from 1973 to 1980. From 1985 to 1988 he was a prof. of conducting at the Norwegian Musikkhogskole in Oslo.
