Run, Fat Boy, Run ★★½ 2007 (PG-13)

David Schwimmer makes his directorial debut, oddly enough, in British territory, but very much in the vein of a “Friends” episode. Like the bonehead he is, Dennis (Pegg) leaves pregnant Libby (Newton) at the altar for no good reason. Five years later, somehow still friends with Libby and working as a security guard in a lingerie shop, Dennis desperately tries to win her back as she's about to marry Whit (Azaria), a rich American marathon runner. Of course, the way to win her heart is to challenge the fiance to a race. (Despite the fat jokes, Dennis is not fat. Out of shape and lazy, yes, but not fat.) Cute and charming, but never laughoutloud funny. 100m/C DVD . GB Simon Pegg, Thandie Newton, Hank Azaria, Dylan Moran, Harish Patel, India de Beaufort, Matthew Festoon; D: David Schwimmer; W: Michael Ian Black, Michael Parker; C: Richard Greatrex; M: Alex Wurman.
