Miami Vice ★★½ 2006 (R)

Writer/ director Michael Mann gives his Miami cop story the big-screen treatment in this update of his popular ‘80s TV series. Today's Crockett (Colin Farrell) and Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) find themselves dangerously deep undercover with the same curious access to super-fast, super-expensive cars and boats as their small-screen predecessors, essential, nodoubt, to catching the multicultural, drugdealing bad guys and attracting their multicultural, multitalented girlfriends. The actors' pursuit of “cool” comes across as stiff and void of expression, while the story is overly complicated and ultimately secondary to film's style, which really is everything in this case. But then, did you really expect that to change? 132m/C DVD, HD DVD .
