Career: Ploughshares, Inc., Boston, Mass., editor and director, 1971-89; Emerson College, prose writer in residence, 1973-74, adjunct professor, 1982-83, assistant professor 1983-89, associate professor of creative writing and literature, 1989-, acting chair, 1987-88, chair of writing, publishing, and literature division, 1989-93, executive director of Ploughshares (journal currently owned by Emerson College), 1990-95. Instructor in English at Simmons College, 1971-72. Director of Book Affairs, Inc., 1975-82. Member of advisory panels, boards, and councils.
