A Fond Kiss
A Fond Kiss ★★ 2004 (R)
A modern-day Scottish “Romeo & Juliet,” with star-crossed mediocrity between a Pakistani DJ and a Catholic music teacher. The culture-clash throws both families into panic (you know the story). Another notch in a series of socially-adept films from director Ken Loach and writer Paul Laverty. This time around they bring a little less humor and a little more drama, albeit stilted, which, along with weak performances and nearly unintelligible accents may turn off a majority of Western audiences. 104m/ C VHS, DVD . Eva Birthistle, Atta Yaqub, Ahmad Riaz, Shabana Bakhsh, Shamshad Akhtar, Ghizala Avan, Pasha Bocarie, Gerard Kelly; D: Ken Loach; C: Barry Ackroyd; M: George Fenton.
