Enchanted April ★★½ 1992 (PG)

Lotte (Lawrence) and Rose (Richardson), tired of their overbearing husbands, rent a villa in Portofino, Italy, for a month with two other very different women—Lady Caroline (Walker), a beautiful but bored socialite, and crusty old Mrs. Fisher (Plowright), who has an impeccable literary pedigree. The effects of the charming villa, with plenty of wisteria and sunshine, do wonders for the women. A charming and romantic period piece. Based on the 1922 novel by Elizabeth von Arnim. 93m/C VHS . GB Miranda Richardson, Joan Plowright, Josie Lawrence, Polly Walker, Alfred Molina, Jim Broadbent, Michael Kitchen, Adriana Fachetti; D: Mike Newell; W: Peter Barnes; C: Rex Maidment; M: Richard Rodney Bennett. Golden Globes '93: Actress—Mus./Comedy (Richardson), Support. Actress (Plowright).
