Death Proof ★★½ Quentin Taranti-no's Death Proof; Grindhouse: Death Proof 2007
Tarantino's half of the “Grindhouse” double bill features the best and worst of his creative impulses. Q creepily indulges foot and cheerleader fetishes, and overdoses on the dialogue-heavy scenes that have become his stock-in-trade, but in this instance just delay the action that everyone came to see. He pays homage to the slasher drive-in flicks of his youth with this tale of Stuntman Mike (Russell), who stalks his (always female) victims using his souped-up and reinforced muscle cars. The extended, and exciting chase scene that closes the film comes ohsoc-lose to making up for Tarantino's transgressions that led up to it. It is, in fact, one of the best car chase sequences put to film. 120m/C DVD .
