Cul de Sac
Cul de Sac ★★★ 1966
A macabre, psychological thriller set in a dreary castle on a small island off the British coast. Pleasence is an eccentric, middle-aged hermit living acrimoniously with his young, nympho wife (Dorleac) when their home is invaded by two wounded gangsters (Stander and MacGowran), who proceed to hold the couple hostage. MacGowran soon dies of his wounds, leaving Stander and Pleasence to fight it out, encouraged by the luscious Dorleac, who finds her fun where she can. A bleak, sinister film considered one of Polanski's best. 111m/C VHS . GB Donald Pleasence, Fran-coise Dorleac, Lionel Stander, Jack MacGowran, Jacqueline Bisset; D: Roman Polanski; W: Roman Polanski, Gerard Brach.
