The Black Sleep
The Black Sleep ★ Dr. Cadman's Secret 1956
Mad scientist Dr. Cadman (Rathbone) invents a drug that causes a deathlike trance and uses it to perform brain surgery on unwilling patients. Needing an assistant, Cadman frames Dr. Ramsay (Rudley) for murder and uses the drug to rescue him from the gallows. Then some of Cadman's experiments get loose and want revenge. Over-the-top hokum that wastes a who's who of horror, including Lugosi (in nearly his last role) as a mute butler. 82m/B VHS . Basil Rathbone, Herbert Rudley, Akim Tamiroff, Lon Chaney Jr., John Carradine, Bela Lugosi, Tor Johnson, Patricia Blake; D: Reginald LeBorg; W: John C. Higgins; C: Gordon Avil; M: Les Baxter.
