Big Momma's House ★★ 2000 (PG-13)

FBI agent Lawrence is sent to Georgia to protect single mom Long and her son from her escaped con ex. Since he's a master of disguise, Lawrence passes himself off as her grandma, who's known as “Big Momma.” Lawrence, like his pal Eddie Murphy, has plenty of experience with costumes, disquises, and multiple roles. So it's kind of disappointing that this isn't a better movie. Sporadic laughs are too often mined from toilet humor, and the plot doesn't allow for many quiet moments, which Lawrence needs to balance out the slapstick. 98m/C VHS, DVD . Martin Lawrence, Nia Long, Paul Giamatti, Terrence Howard, Anthony Anderson, Carl Wright, Ella Mitchell, Jascha Washington, Starletta DuPois, Cedric the Entertainer; D: Raja Gosnell; W: Darryl Quarles, Don Rhymer; C: Michael D. O'Shea; M: Richard Gibbs.
