Early Childhood Development Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide a seamless system to upgrade the professional development of child-care workers and trainers by providing financial assistance for qualified Kentucky

students intending to pursue a childhood development degree. Focus: Early childhood education. Qualif.: Applicants must be residents of Kentucky; must be U.S. citizens, national, or permanent residents; must be enrolled in no more than 9 credit hours per academic term in the scholarship program curriculum at a participating Kentucky institution and must be pursuing at least one of the approved credentials and maintaining satisfactory academic progress; must be employed at least 20 hours weekly in a participating early childhood facility or must be providing training in early childhood development at least 12 times per year for an organization approved to offer training by the Office of Inspector General of the Cabinet for Health Services or must be employed as a preschool associate teacher in a state-funded preschool program; must have no unpaid financial obligation to the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority or in default on any other Title IV program; and must be agreeable to a service commitment based on the credential pursued. Criteria: Selection of applicant will be based on the eligibility and application requirements.

Funds Avail.: $1,800. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application package which include the Free Application for Federal Student Aid which can be obtained up to three copies by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center toll free at 800433-3243.

Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarships (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial support for deserving Kentucky high school students and GED recipients intending to pursue their education. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants be high school students; must be U.S. citizens, national or permanent residents; must be residents of Kentucky; must have earned at least a 2.5 GPA in any year of high school while meeting the KEES curriculum requirements; must attend and graduate from a certified Kentucky high school or other approved high school; and must not be a convicted felon. High school graduates applying for a KEES bonus award must have at least an ACT composite score of 15 or a score of 710 or higher on the SAT and must have earned at least a 2.5 GPA in any year of high school while meeting the KEES curriculum requirements. Home school graduates applying for a KEES bonus award must have an ACT composite score of 15 or better on a national exam; must be U.S citizens, national or permanent residents; must be residents of Kentucky; must be enrolled in a participating college; and must not be a convicted felon. GED graduate applicants must have an ACT composite score of 15 or better on a national exam; must have earned a GED in Kentucky within five years of turning 18 years old; must be U.S citizens, national or permanent residents; must be residents of Kentucky; must be enrolled in a participating college within five years of receiving a GED; and must not be a convicted felon. Criteria: Selection will be based on merit.

Kentucky Tuition Grants (Undergraduate/Grant)

Purpose: To help students offset the high tuition charges at independent colleges. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be residents of Kentucky who are enrolled in the Commonwealth's independent colleges. Institutions must be accredited by a regional accrediting association recognized by U.S Department of Education and must not be comprised solely of religious instruction; must be full-time undergraduates enrolled in an associate or baccalaureate degree program and must have no past due financial obligations to KHEAA to any Title IV program. Criteria: Selection will be based on the application requirements and eligibility.

Funds Avail.: $2,000-$3,000. To Apply: Applicants must complete the Application for Federal Student Aid form. Applicants are advised to contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 800-433-3243 for further information.

KHEAA Teacher Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial aid for highly qualified Kentucky students intending to pursue initial teacher certification at participating Kentucky institutions. Focus: Teaching. Qualif.: Applicants must be residents of Kentucky who are enrolled full-time in a teacher certification program; must demonstrate financial need; and must meet their institution's educational program GPA requirements. Criteria: Priority is given to financially incapable applicants.

Funds Avail.: $2,500 for each semester and $1,250 for summer awarded to juniors, seniors, post-baccalaureate or graduate students; $625 each semester and $325 for summer awarded to freshmen and sophomore recipients. To Apply: Applicants must complete application package which include the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and a Teacher Scholarship application. Applicants are advised to contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 800433-3243 for further information and instructions. Deadline: May 1.

Mary Jo Young Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To improve educational opportunities for Kentuck-ians. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Program is open to high school students in grades 9 thru 12 enrolled in dual credit classes at any college or university or to students taking Advanced Placement courses through the Kentucky Virtual High School. Criteria: Priority is given to low-income students, minority students and first-generation college attendees.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicants must send completed application to: KHEAA Mary Jo Young Scholarship Program, PO Box 798, Frankfort, KY 40602-0798. Deadline: May 1.
