A Big Hand for the Little Lady
A Big Hand for the Little Lady ★★½ Big Deal at Dodge City 1966
Fonda and Woodward, playing two Westheaded country bumpkins, get involved in a card game in Laredo against high rollers Robards and McCarthy. Fonda risks their savings, finds himself stuck with a losing hand, and has a bit of heart trouble; that's where the little lady comes in. Fine performances and a nifty twist ending don't entirely compensate for the overly padded script (which evolved from a 48minute TV play drafted by Sydney Carroll). 95m/C VHS . Henry Fonda, Joanne Woodward, Jason Robards Jr., Charles Bickford, Burgess Meredith, Kevin McCarthy; D: Fielder Cook; C: Lee Garmes.
