Ingmar Bergman wrote the screen play chronicling the early years of the stor my relationship of his parents. Set in Swe den at the turn of the century, the film fo cuses on the class differences that divide his mother and father, while portrayal of little Bergy is limited to a bundle under his mother's maternity dress. Inspired perfor mances and directing illuminates the emotionally complex relationship, revealing truths about the universal human condition along the way.
