New Zealand-born Australian racer who, in April 1984, became the first woman in the world to win a national motor sport Grand Prix. Born in 1956 in New Zealand.

On April 22, 1984, Margaret Halliday, a Sydney secretary, became the first woman to win an Australian national motor sport Grand Prix when she partnered her boyfriend, Doug Chivas, to win the Grand Prix of the Mount Panorama circuit for 1000cc motorcycle sidecars. Held at Bathurst, 100 miles west of Sydney, the race saw Halliday, who was the passenger in the motorcycle driven by Chivas, sharing the victory in a sixlap, 23 mile contest in which Halliday and Chivas led the pack from start to finish. With this victory, Halliday also became the first woman in the world to win a national motor sport Grand Prix.
