Russian novelist and short-story writer. Name variations: Sofia Ivanovna Smirnóva. Born 1852 in Russia; died 1921; m. Nikolai Sazanov (actor), 1877.

Wrote novels, popular in their day, including A Small Light (1871), The School District Administrator (1873), Strength of Character (1876) and Through Fire and Water (1893); also wrote plays, including The Anthill (1896), and several short stories.
