Irish poet. Born 1952 in Lancashire, England; dau. of Irish physicians; graduate of University College Cork; m. Dogan Leflef (Turkish geologist), 1973; children: 4.
With family, moved to Kerry (1957); moved to Holland with husband, then Turkey; returned to Ireland (1980); one of Ireland's fore-most women poets writing in Irish, focuses on Irish folklore, myth and culture in such works as Astrakhan Cloak, Pharaoh's Daughter, Selected Poems and Spionain is Roiseanna; is a regular broadcaster on Irish radio and tv. Received American Fund Literary Award (1991).
