Knox, Isa (1831–1903)

Scottish writer. Name variations: Isa Craig; Mrs. Knox. Born Isa Craig in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1831; died in 1903; married John Knox (an iron merchant), in 1866.

Isa Craig was employed on the staff of the Scotsman for some time, contributing material under the name Isa, before moving to London in 1857. There, she was secretary to the National Association for the Promotion of Social Science until her marriage to her cousin John Knox, an iron merchant. She wrote the prize poem for the Burns festival at the Crystal Palace celebration on January 25, 1859, and went on to publish several novels, as well as Tales on the Parables (1872), The Little Folks' History of England (1872), and In Duty Bound (1881).
