New Zealand nurse, midwife, welfare worker. Name variations: Leilah Gordon, Eliza Urquhart, Leilah Urquhart. Born on Jan 29, 1877, in Glasgow, Scotland; died June 15, 1938, in Dunedin, New Zealand; dau. of Robert Maurice Urquhart (ship's steward) and Margaret (Wright) Urquhart; m. William Gordon (painter, d. 1905), 1902; children: 2 daughters.
Immigrated to New Zealand with family (1880); worked as attendant at Seacliff Lunatic Asylum (1899); after training as midwife at St Helens Hospital in Dunedin, served as visiting nurse and district agent for Otago for Child Welfare Branch (1917–32).
