Florentino, Leona (1849–1884)
Filipino poet and playwright. Name variations: Leonora Florentino. Born 1849 in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Northern Luzon; died 1884.
The 1st woman poet of the Philippines, learned Spanish but wrote in native language Iloko; wrote didactic and satirical works as well as lyrics, love poems, and occasional verse which were published in major newspapers with Spanish translations; work exhibited at Exposition Internationale in Paris (1889).
