First Canadian woman to achieve success as author of popular romances, wrote La Masque; or, The Midnight Queen (1863), A Mad Marriage (1875), Kate Danton; or, Captain Danton's Daughters (1877), The Heir of Charlton (1878) and Lost for a Woman (1880), among others.
