Made Broadway debut in Lew Leslie's Blackbirds; other plays include Five Star Final, They Shall Not Die, Mamba's Daughters, Cabin in the Sky, No Time for Comedy, Anna Lucasta, The Grass Harp and Porgy and Bess. Won Donaldson Award for performance in Decision (1944).
