Brown, Mary Jane (1917–1997)
American tap dancer and teacher. Born May 13, 1917, in Syracuse, NY; died 1997.
Began performing tap numbers with family vaudeville act (1929), but soon moved on to solos (c. 1932); appeared frequently with brother; toured with bands of Bob Crosby and Wayne King, among others (1930s); appeared on Broadway in George White's Scandals of 1940; appeared at NY clubs, such as Greenwich Village Inn, and on early tv variety shows, including Milton Berle's "Texaco Star Theater"; opened own ballet studio in the Bronx and taught for many years at International Dance School.
