Character actress, played Aunt Polly in Tom Sawyer (1930) and Huckleberry Finn (1931), but best remembered for role of Auntie Em in The Wizard of Oz (1939); other films include Anthony Adverse (1936), A Star Is Born (1937), Drums Along the Mohawk (1939), Northwest Mounted Police (1940), Heaven Can Wait (1943) and Life With Father (1947).
