Bibiana (d. 363)

Roman martyr. Name variations: Vivian. Birth date unknown; died in Rome in 363 ce; daughter of Flavian (formerly prefect of Rome) and Dafrosa.

Death came to Bibiana and her parents during the Christian-baiting reign of Roman emperor Julian the Apostate (355–363). Her father Flavian, who had been prefect of Rome, was branded on the forehead a slave and exiled to Aquae Taurinae in Tuscany where he died of starvation; her mother Dafrosa was beheaded. Apronianus tied Bibiana to a pillar, and she was beaten with leaded cords until she died. Her feast day is December 2.
