Bews, Mary Ellen (1856–1945)
New Zealand school principal and founder. Born Aug 20, 1856, in Glasgow, Scotland; died Mar 29, 1945, in Auckland, New Zealand; dau. of David Bews and Ann (Anderson) Bews.
Studied in Europe and became accomplished linguist; immigrated to New Zealand with family (1885); co-founded secondary school for girls in Auckland, Mount Eden College (1895) and served as principal.
