Belleville-Oury, Anna Caroline de (1808–1880)

Pianist of French descent, known for her chamber music performances with her husband. Born Anna Caroline de Belleville in Landshut, Germany, on June 24, 1808; died in Munich, Germany, on July 22, 1880; daughter of the director of the Bavarian Court Opera; married Antonio James Oury (the violinist), in 1831.

Though Anna Caroline de Belleville-Oury's family was French, she spent most of her life in Germany where her father was director of the Bavarian Court Opera in Munich. She studied with Czerny in Vienna for four years, making her debut in that city. After well-received tours of European musical centers during which she was compared to Clara Wieck (later Clara Schumann ), Belleville-Oury settled in London. Married in 1831 to the violinist Antonio James Oury, she and her husband toured Europe and Russia as a highly successful chamber-music team. She was the composer of many piano works, over 180 of which found their way into print. Anna Caroline de Belleville-Oury died in Munich on July 22, 1880.
