Auzou, Pauline Desmarquets (1775–1835)
French painter. Name variations: Mme Auzou; Pauline Desmarquêts Auzou. Born in Paris in 1775; died in 1835; studied under Regnault.
Influenced by Marguérite Gérard , Pauline Auzou began painting interior scenes in the 1790s, portraying young women reading or playing musical instruments. She won a médaille de première classe with this theme in 1808. Her most popular works were French historical paintings and portraits, including Diana of France and Montmorency. Several of her pictures have been engraved.
