Arundel, Anne (d. 1642)

English noblewoman. Name variations: Lady Baltimore; Arundell. Born in England; died in England in 1642; daughter of a Roman Catholic peer; married Cecil Calvert, 2nd Lord Baltimore (1606–1675), in 1629.

Anne Arundel was the wife of Cecil Calvert, 2nd Lord Baltimore, and the first lord proprietor of Maryland; her name still marks Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Until 1694, Annapolis was also called Anne Arundel; then it was renamed in honor of Princess Anne (later Queen Anne ). Neither Anne Arundel, who died at age 34, nor her husband ever set foot on American soil.
